Design Studio 303 of Chicagoland designs logo, printed pieces and website for American Idol and Popstar Star Clay Aiken's The Bubel Aiken Foundation

January 22 2004--Targeting both adults and youth, Design Studio 303's (DS303) design scheme for the Foundation's logo, printed pieces and website features powerful, edgy and dynamic graphics that give TBAF a fun, contemporary look and feel that is not too serious. In addition, images and silhouettes using TBAF's founder, Clay Aiken, and his inspiration, Mike Bubel, to create an emotionally moving logo and design treatment that clearly communicates the pop star's active role in his charity and his dedication to helping youth with disabilities.

"In developing the logo, Design Studio 303's design team looked to create a design treatment that tied Clay's star status and the foundation's mission. The logo was inspired by a photo of Clay and Mike together. By incorporating Mike (Bubel) into the logo we felt the logo spoke to the foundation's roots and inspiration for its mission. These days, you find a lot of celebrities involved with charities, but that involvement is just at the periphery. With Clay, the involvement is at a much deeper level. The foundation was formed as a result of his personal experience with Mike Bubel, Clay is definitely committed to staying involved at all levels," Seda Turan-Yahne, Design Director, DS303.

The website utilizes visual images and language that is cutting-edge enough for the MTV crowd without being too trendy. The result is a logo and site that is light, and works as a serious but fun image for TBAF, which is so imperative for a charity's message and identity. www.thebubelaikenfoundation.com, features a plethora of information about the charity's mission and how one can participate in helping children with disabilities. Clay's involvement with the foundation is reflected by his presence throughout the site. As the technical director, Rick Jacobs, was responsible for translating the ideas and vision of the design team into the website. "Working on the TBAF web site has been such a rewarding experience, great to work for such a noble and worthy cause. While making the site both fun and functional and pushing the limits of the technology of the Internet, we are happy to add the TBAF site to our portfolio," Rick Jacobs,
DS303 Technical Director.

Clay Aiken, a Raleigh, NC native, intended to pursue a career in special education and was in the process of completing his degree at UNC-Charlotte when he met Diane Bubel and her then 13 year old son, Mike. Clay cared for Mike, who had been diagnosed with autism, for over a year. During this time, Clay grew close to the Bubel family and came to appreciate their relationship with Mike. Diane Bubel had noticed Clay's remarkable voice and encouraged him to try out for American Idol.
"The [Bubel's support of me in my educational, personal, and musical life is in part what lead me to pursue the goal of a career in music," says Clay. He cemented his gratitude to both Diane and Mike on July 28, 2003, when he officially announced the creation of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation while in New York City. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation will provide grants and other one-on-one services to individuals living with disabilities so that they may participate in programs and work environments that are normally designed for persons without disabilities. Clay plans for the foundation to encourage and facilitate community inclusion and the empowerment of individuals with disabilities. "My ultimate goal," says Clay, "is for this foundation to really make an impact. I hope this foundation has a much longer shelf life than I do."
